Gosh, I just got back from a genealogy trip to Ireland - inspired to get back to work on those Igoes - when I logged onto this blog I realized the worst - I haven't done anything with it for 3 years. Unforgivable isn't it? I plan to do a better job right away.
We stayed at a B&B in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland and the proprietor said - Igoe eh? You must have family just over the way in Castlebar! I thought Roscommon was more likely for my husband's family, but Castlebar is close to County Roscommon so it's possible. He was generous enough to share his most recent phone book so I now have some current names and places to think about.
I have been checking the 1901 and 1911 Irish censuses and entering the Igoe and Igo families into Legacy 8. This is a complicated process, but I'm enjoying it very much. I found an 80 year old widow living with 2 granddaughters in 1901 who gave her occupation as 'Beggar'. Gives you pause doesn't it? Now I want to know what happened to those three women.
I've been gathering information about the Igoe surname wherever I can find it and should really sit down and combine all this information and make some assessment. Hopefully my next blog will have some good stuff in it! Watch this space.

Wow - I've connected with another relative who is interested in Helen Igoe. Her father is one of Pete's cousins, which means Helen was their aunt. We connected through the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle (MOHAI). Here's a line to an article about High Fashion in Seattle (http://www.mohai.org/component/k2/item/1733-high-fashion).

I want to use this space to share information about my husband's IGOE ancestors for my children - and anyone else who might be interested in an IGOE (or IGO) they might have known.
The first person I want to learn more about is Helen Igoe. She owned a women's clothing store in Seattle, Washington from 1914 to about 1950. I have quite a bit of scattered information, but will be gathering it up and sharing it as I get organized - stay tuned!
